The winners announced at the recent AGM were:

10 Purser Gardens, Bernard & Penny White

59 Moyne Road, Ethna Browne

Ethna Ryan was kind enough to give us the following description of her garden:

We tried to give the front garden a 'country cottage' look with red and yellow rambling roses around the front porch, intertwined with two contracting clematis, the pink Nelly Moser and the more popular pale pink Montana, all of which offer a colourful and eye-catching combination when all are in bloom. Opposite a climbing cotoneaster bears white flowers in summer followed by vibrant berries in autumn and winter.

Ground cover is provided by rampant purple Vinca, while the pink hydrangea by the bay window has its pink blooms echoed by a clump of flock and clusters of wild geraniums. Yellow verbascums and foxgloves offer further contrasts, and a favourite sage bush, with its spectacular blue flowers and grey-green foliage, sits just inside the font railings, alongside the striking spear-like leaves of the red 'burning bush'. Clumps of large white Shasta daises and Crocosmia lucifer border along the left hand side of the garden, further adding to the 'cottage' look.
