New Bench in Belgrave Square

Post date: Apr 4, 2016 4:39:30 PM

The Finn family have recently donated a new bench to Belgrave Square in memory of their parents and grandparents – it is almost opposite the house where they lived – 39 Belgrave Square.

The plaque reads:

And I shall have some peace there

Celebrating Joe and Carmel Finn,

Our remarkable parents

Also May and James Finn

May and James Finn’s letters were recently published in a book by Tessa Finn under the title:Letters - May & James

A private love in a revolutionary year - 1916

which is available from local bookshops and from Amazon (€14)

These letters were recently featured in the RTE TV programme “16 Letters”, presented by Ryan Tubridy, who interviewed Tessa. (Easter Sunday, March 27th)

The programme was based on the Maynooth University ‘Letters of 1916’ project, run by Professor Susan Schreibman. It is an online database of letters from a wide range of people in 1916 and includes all the Finn letters. It can be consulted at;
